Teaching and Learning for Librarians (TLfL) is a six-month development programme for library staff involved in teaching, training, or supporting learning. Grounded in inclusive pedagogy and aligned with the UK Professional Standards Framework (PSF 2023), this course equips librarians with the confidence, theory, and tools to thrive as educators.
Originally co-created by Kirstie Preest and Claire Sewell at the University of Cambridge, the course has supported dozens of librarians to build a strong teaching identity and community of practice. In this edition, Kirstie Preest will be delivering the programme live and facilitating the learning journey.
Whether you're new to teaching or want to deepen your pedagogical practice, TLfL offers a supportive, practical, and evidence-informed learning environment.
By the end of the course, you will:
Develop your personal teaching philosophy
Understand and apply key learning theories
Design inclusive, evidence-based teaching and learning activities
Build confidence in both face-to-face and online learning environments
Learn how to design sessions using Backward Design principles
Engage in peer feedback and deliver a micro-teach
Build a sustainable teaching network and community of practice
Each month combines a half-day live Zoom session with approx. half a day of guided study via Moodle. The experience is interactive, collaborative, and reflective.
