Strengths in Meetings

Neuroinclusive Collaboration and Decision-Making

Meetings should help teams think, collaborate and make progress. Yet many meetings unintentionally reward the people who can process information quickly, speak without preparation and make decisions in the moment.

Other valuable contributions can disappear.

The person who spots risks may need time with the papers. The colleague with an original idea may not find the right moment to speak. Someone who processes deeply may only identify the crucial question after the meeting has moved on.

Strengths in Meetings: Neuroinclusive Collaboration and Decision-Making is a practical two-hour recorded session for anyone who wants meetings to access more of the thinking, insight and strengths already present within their team.

It builds on the principles introduced in Meetings That Work and applies a more detailed strengths-based and neuroinclusive lens.

Why neuroinclusive meeting design matters

Meetings involve far more than listening to information.

Participants may also be:

Filtering noise and other sensory input
Working out when it is safe to speak
Holding a thought while the subject changes
Reading social cues and managing hierarchy
Processing unfamiliar information
Trying to remember actions and deadlines
Managing fatigue, anxiety or the effects of back-to-back meetings

This hidden workload can drain attention and make participation harder.

A person who remains quiet may be thinking deeply. Someone who answers quickly may be thinking aloud. A colleague who raises detailed questions may be protecting the team from risk rather than resisting change.

Better meeting design helps us interpret these differences more thoughtfully and create conditions in which more people can contribute.

What you will learn

This session will help you:

Understand why meetings can be difficult for different brains
Recognise sources of cognitive, sensory, social and emotional pressure
Explore how time blindness affects preparation, pacing and follow-through
Avoid confusing processing speed with the quality of someone’s thinking
Identify the strengths that different people bring to meetings
Offer meaningful ways to contribute before, during and after a meeting
Generate ideas without allowing the fastest voices to dominate
Give feedback with greater clarity and less unnecessary threat
Make decision-making processes easier to understand
Build reflection and processing time into important decisions
Turn discussion into clear decisions, actions and deadlines

Practical tools you can use immediately

The session introduces a collection of straightforward tools that you can adapt for meetings, project groups and committees.

Four meeting pressure points

A simple way to examine the effects of input, time, social expectations and energy.

Strengths Contribution Map

A reflective tool for noticing how people contribute through observation, creativity, connection and action.

Contribution Menu

A practical way to offer spoken, written, visual and asynchronous routes into a discussion.

1–2–4–All

A structured activity that gives people individual thinking time before they enter larger discussions.

Feedback with lower threat

A four-part structure for describing what happened, explaining its impact and making a clear request.

Decision Ladder

A model for showing whether participants are being informed, consulted, asked to recommend, invited to consent or empowered to decide.

Processing pause

A defined period for reviewing information, asking questions and identifying material risks before a significant decision becomes final.

Visible Decision Record

A concise format for recording what was decided, why, who owns the next step and what remains open.

Who is this course for?

This recording is designed for:

Librarians and library staff
Library managers and senior leaders
Project leads
Committee chairs
Team facilitators
People responsible for staff meetings
Anyone who attends, runs or dreads meetings

The examples have been developed with library workplaces in mind, but the tools can be used across higher education, schools, public services, charities and other organisations.

You do not need a formal diagnosis, specialist knowledge or previous strengths training to benefit.

A thoughtful approach to neuroinclusion

This course does not ask people to disclose diagnoses or personal information.

It does not replace one rigid set of meeting rules with another. Different people need different things, and individual needs can change according to the subject, environment, energy available and level of psychological safety.

The focus is on creating useful choices, reducing avoidable barriers and making the purpose and decision process clearer for everyone.

What is included?

When you purchase the recording, you will receive:

The two-hour recorded session
An editable 18-page participant workbook
Practical reflection activities
Meeting redesign prompts
A Strengths Contribution Map
A Contribution Menu
A Decision Design Canvas
A Visible Decision Record
A practical follow-through planner

You can work through the recording independently or use it to support a team conversation.

What will change after the session?

By the end of the course, you will be able to examine a meeting and ask:

What are we asking people’s brains to do?
Which pressure point can we reduce?
Whose strengths does this format reveal or hide?
How can people contribute and process?
What will be clear when they leave?

You will also identify one realistic change to test in your next meeting.

That may be sending a clearer question in advance, beginning with quiet reflection, offering a written contribution route or explaining who will make the decision and when.

Small changes can make meetings calmer, fairer and more effective.

Start creating meetings that use more of your team’s strengths

When meetings accommodate different ways of thinking, teams gain access to more insight, challenge, creativity and practical judgement.

Participants understand how to contribute. Decisions become clearer. Actions become easier to follow. People expend less energy trying to navigate hidden rules.

Purchase Strengths in Meetings: Neuroinclusive Collaboration and Decision-Making and start making your meetings work for more minds.
